Description
We are looking for Online Befrienders at First Steps eating disorders charity. In particular, anyone who has experience of emotional overeating, or Binge Eating Disorder, and males who would like to volunteer.

First Steps is Derbyshire’s only eating disorder charity. We support people all over Derbyshire and the surrounding areas who are affected by eating difficulties and disorders; this includes parents, partners and families. First Steps’ services include: Recovery and Self Help Groups, Skills for Carers, one to ones, Hypnotherapy, Dramatherapy, befriending, training and development for volunteers and health workers, self-esteem and body image workshops, and much more...

Befriending provides support by creating a means of communication to discuss any difficulties in times of need. You will support service users in their recovery and with any goals they have to work towards. As well as talking about their eating disorder, you can also talk about hobbies and interests. Befriending at First Steps is currently in the form of regular emails. Befrienders for First Steps are people who have had an eating disorder themselves, experience through a close friend or family member, experience of working with people with eating disorders or someone who is passionate about this mental health illness.

Your befriendees will be people who are suffering from, either alone or a combination of: an eating disorder, social exclusion, anxiety, symptoms of isolation and loneliness, difficulty sharing emotions and feelings. You will be matched up to a service user according to similar interests and/or experiences.
