We provide a FREE Befriending service for people aged 50 and over, providing a volunteer to visit once a week in your own home to provide some companionship.

About Amber Valley CVS Befrienders
This befriending service has been in existence for over ten years and offers friendship/support to people in need. A befriender visits someone regularly on a one-to-one basis. People with a physical disability, people with mental health problems, and elderly people. A befriender can reduce feelings of isolation and help to prevent mental ill-health. Volunteers over 17 years of age are required to work with people in need, or who are isolated or vulnerable. This may include working with older people, people with a learning disability, mental health problems or physical disability.

What are they looking for?
No formal skills or qualifications required. It would be beneficial if volunteers possess good listening skills and compassion.

All volunteers must complete an eight hour course that takes place over four weeks in two hour slots. Ongoing support and supervision is available.
