Age Concern Chesterfield & District - Care Line 

Offered to: Older people

Area covered: Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.

Our trained volunteers provide a Care Line telephone befriending service to older people who are isolated, lonely or in need of companionship.  Calls can be made up to 3 times a week and not only offer friendship but also a line of contact to other practical support, advice and assistance.  We can also help people who are recently bereaved by offering emotional support.

Age UK Derby & Derbyshire - Derbyshire Dales & High Peak Befriending Scheme

Offered to: Older people over 65 (60+ with dementia or other health issues). A paid for service is available to those over 50.

Area covered: Derbyshire Dales and High Peak

Volunteers offer social support and companionship to older people living the community who are isolated, vulnerable or lonely. There is also a befriending+ service covering shopping, visits out and respite for carers.

Volunteer befrienders offer weekly visits to provide companionship and support to socially isolated people in their own homes.  Phone buddies make weekly phone calls.

Careline (Derbyshire Dales)

Area covered: Southern Derbyshire Dales and Uttoxeter

Careline is a free telephone befriending service for people living in the Derbyshire Dales and Uttoxeter area. We aim to make people’s lives better by calling those who feel in need of support – they may be elderly, less able to get out, recently bereaved, feeling lonely or isolated. We offer friendship to the people we call and peace of mind to their family and friends. Volunteers make befriending calls, providing greater social interaction for our members and helping to give them the confidence to remain living independently. The service is completely free and available every day of the year including weekends and holidays.

Careline in Hathersage

Offered to: Older people who live alone or vulnerable individuals

Area covered: Hathersage (Derbyshire Dales)

The service offers a telephone call to service users every morning if they wish.  Volunteers provide a friendly ear and time to enquire that all is well.  The service supports elderly people who live alone, carers or other vulnerable individuals, or on a short term basis to people who have been discharged from hospital or while relatives are away from home.

Chesterfield Time Bank - Circles of Time

Offered to: All adults

Area covered: Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.

Circles of Time is a telephone befriending service for people in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire. Each person will be visited by a TimeBanker four to six times and in that time we will find out about your interests and match you to other people who have similar interests until a small circle of people is formed.  You can then contact other people in your circle. When you make your call(s) you record your time and this can be used when you need some help. Being in a circle of friends can help reduce loneliness and feelings of isolation and friendships can build with other people. Knowing a friend will be phoning you for a chat can make a huge difference - it can be a lifeline.

Chinese Big Society

Offered to: Adults of all ages from the Chinese community in the North of Derbyshire

Community Concern Erewash

Offered to: All adults - but aimed predominantly at older single people

Area covered: Cotmanhay and Ilkeston (Erewash District)

Volunteers visit clients in their homes for one hour a week, a social visit to offer friendship and reduce isolation.  The service is predominantly for elderly single people who are lonely and not able to socialise.

Offered to: Older people, people with physical disabilities, carers

Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST)

Offered to: Any adult who has been bereaved through an asbestis related disease

Area covered: Derbyshire

Individual and group support to anyone who has been bereaved through an asbestos relatede disease.  As well as one to one telephone and face to face support, we provide a range of opportunities for mutual support and information through networking events such as coffee mornings, conferences, family and friends forums.  We hold regular events throughout the region to reduce the feelings of isolation. We offer practical advice and information, advice on financial entitlements, help in claiming benefits, home visits, emotional support, signposting and direct referral through to local services where appropriate.

First Steps

Offered to: Anyone with an eating difficulty or disorder

Area covered: Nationwide

Volunteers with either personal or professional experience of eating disorders offer online befriending for anyone who has any eating difficulty or disorder. After training, the volunteer will email the befriendee on a regular basis over a period of 6-9 months.. The befriendee can talk about their eating difficulties, however they can also talk about day to day things too. The aims include limiting isolation, giving an individual a safe place to talk and building up confidence.

Hearing Help Amber Valley

Trained volunteers from the local community, who have parenting experience offer support, friendship and practical help to parents and carers of children under 5. This can be in situations such as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or those who are just finding parenting a struggle.

Home-Start South Derbyshire

Recruits and trains parent volunteers to support local families who are struggling to cope for whatever reason.  It could be post natal depression, disability, mental health issues, domestic violence, parenting, bereavement, addiction and much more.  Our volunteers provide confidential emotional and practical support by visiting families in their own homes on a one to one basis for as long as the family needs

Luv2MeetU

Offered to: Adults with learning difficulties

Area covered: Bolsover and North East Derbyshire

Luv2MeetU is a friendship and dating agency for adults with learning disabilities.  The service provides opportuntiies for people to make new friends, share interests and develop friendships.  It is a way for people to widen their social circle by taking part in activities and events chosen by members such as meals out, shopping trips and cinema.  The service also provides chaperoned events for members on dates or outings.  There is a £40 annual membership fee and a membership application process for new members

Offered to: Socially isolated adults including older people, people with disabilities and people with mental health issues

Readycall Macmillan, assisted by trained volunteers, provides befriending and practical support to people aged 60 and over living in the Derbyshire Dales who are, or have been, affected by cancer or other life limiting conditions, and those who care for them.

Offered to: Any vulnerable adult

Area covered: South Derbyshire

A befriending service for any vulnerable adult living in South Derbyshire who is socially isolated, for example due to age, disability, mental ill-health, sensory impairment or caring responsibilities.  Volunteer befrienders offer 1:1 support and companionship through home visits, telephone befriending, or by supporting someone to go out and take part in activities outside the home.

South Derbyshire CVS - Unique Care Befriending

Offered to: A specific caseload of older people supported by the Unique Care Team

Unique Care is a programme for patients from a number of local GP practices - access to the service is by referral from the Unique Care team only. Volunteers visit and befriend people aged 65+ who have multiple health or support needs, at their home.

Sporting Futures

Offered to: Young people aged 8-19

Area covered: Derby and Derbyshire

Young people can be referred to the Sporting Futures programme of activity and matched up with an appropriate sporting envirnoment once a week.  Young people are supported through sessions by community volunteers and staff. The young people can access sprot participation opportunities, volunteering opportunities and gain life skills, employment skills and advice on an improved, crime free, healthier lifestyle.
